Biography of Camille Belmont

Camille Belmont was born in Zalae, Caputia to an upper-middle class family that was active in Caputian politics. Her father, Marcus Belmont, was an elected member of the royal district's government. Camille was well-educated in Caputia and eventually found herself fleeing Zalae in the midst of the White Plague.

Finding refuge in Alduria, Belmont quickly became involved in the nascent conservative movement of the nation. She settled in Narbonne, Asuara, where she was the local party leader of the National-Liberal Alliance for a few years. She would eventually be elected as an MP in 1672. While in Parliament, she has been seen as largely aligned with the populist right-wing of the N-LA, and - alongside Atanasio Paredes - was an outspoken critic of both Alejandro Campos and Natalia Cotilla.

In the run-up to the 1678 elections, Belmont was convinced to run for the Presidency in order to bring a truly conservative voice to this important office. She was nominated nearly unanimously by the Aldurian National Alliance (with about 1/3 of votes going to various outlying candidates on the centrist and extreme-right wings of the party).

Her motto is "Strengthening the Spirit of Alduria" and she promises a campaign built around a national identity that promotes growth and reliance on the family. Not a dogmatic free-marketeer, Belmont is very outspoken and has built up a small following in her home state. It remains to be seen if she can translate her vision nationally.
