As the nation gears up to its second general election, the public’s to-do list for the President and the next Parliament spans domains with national defense, health care costs, the economy and education all cited as top priorities by majorities of Aldurians.

The Aldurian Institute of Opinion survey, conducted over 5 days among 10,505 registered voters, finds the priorities for Aldurian voters as the country heads into its next general election.

The public’s agenda for the president and Congress is only modestly different from a year ago, but it reflects the evolution of the country and the rise of new national concerns and issues as the nation grows and expands in Eura.

The defense of Alduria (70% top priority) remains among the public’s highest priorities, but its prominence has waned as Aldurian military successes and the hunt for terrorists in West Baatharz continue. With public ratings of the national economic performance (along with economic indicators) displaying a current and future positive outlook, 68% now say improving the economy should be a top priority for the next government, with 56% specifically mentioning the national employment situation as a concern (an all-time low).

As security concerns start to become less prominent, the domestic issues of reducing health care costs (69% top priority) and improving the educational system (68%) now rank among the top tier of public priorities. About two-thirds also say that taking steps to address poverty (67%, poor and needy) and the environment (67%) are top priorities for the country.

Labor rights and collective bargaining have made its first appearance in the public's policy concerns with the recent tense labor negotiations between shipping companies and the teamsters in the Port of Punta Santiago.

The Liberty and Democracy Party enjoys the support of 37% in our party poll, maintaining a strong lead of 8 percentage points ahead of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, which stands at 29%.

The Euran Destiny Party has dropped in support to 20%, with the Aldurian National Alliance (formerly the National-Liberal Alliance) improving on past polls with 11%.

50% of Aldurians view the incumbent Prime Minister positively, with 42% disapproving. Social conservatives and Zurvanites have registered the strongest opposition to the Prime Minister, noting his social policies such as marijuana legalization and same-sex marriage the most as reasons for their opposition.
