Alduria Division Draft
#1
Following some executive restructuring, and ahead of the inaugural soccer league season, the Alduria Division will undertake a player draft. This draft will see the 16 Alduria Division teams pick four players each to sign to salary-capped professional deals as designated players. These players had their playing rights transferred to the Alduria Division last year as part of the collapse of Caputia's FAC Premier Division and are therefore free to join whichever club drafts them.

The format for the draft will see four rounds of picks, which each team having one pick per round. Unlike most other sports drafts, which see the previous season's least successful teams pick first, as we have no prior Aldurian records to go by, the order for the draft has been completely randomised. As the league is split into two conferences, for parity, picks have been alternated between their respective teams, and the order of each subsequent rounds of picks has been reversed from the previous one; therefore, if a team picks first in the first round, they shall pick last in the second. Draft picks may not be exchanged between teams, and teams may not pick more than one goalkeeper.

The 64 players entered into the draft are as follows. They consist of existing professional players of Alexandrian, Hammish, Valencian, Tae, and Monovian extraction who are all now naturalised Aldurians:

AFF President Jean Brown, former international player for Alexandria, opens the ceremony with a short speech about breaking boundaries in Micrasian football with a first ever professional draft being held within the FMF, and gives his promise to the people of Alduria that the nation will have a domestic league to be proud of.

Brown then begins the draft proceedings by telling Punta Santiago FC that they are on the clock*...

* Unlike real drafts where being "on the clock" is a team's countdown to submitting their pick to those in charge, I'm just giving myself ten minutes per pick in which to announce the player and do a little overview of their career and experience!

With the first pick of the Alduria Division draft, Punta Santiago FC choose... JAVIER DE LA FUENTE

De la Fuente, 26, was earmarked as one of the draft's hottest properties early on due to his age and international experience. The native Alexandrian started his career at Real Loredo in his home country before a short stint at Caputia's Real Porapa. A rapid winger with an eye for a shot, De la Fuente has the experience of playing in three World Cups and a CiboTap finals for Alexandria, and in EMU 18 for Caputia. He made his début for Alduria in the nation's first ever match; a surprise 3-2 win over Craitland.

With the second pick of the Alduria Division draft, Imperial FC choose... LOÏC MONTRANEAU

One of the most dominant players in the draft, 28-year-old defender Montraneau is another with multiple World Cup appearances under his belt with Alexandria. After an initial spell at his hometown club Franciscania Athletic, Montraneau played for AS Ibelin ahead of signing for Caputia's Kilbay City. A fixture for the Alexandrian national team for a number of years, he too has represented Caputia and Alduria since his home nation's demise.

With the third pick of the Alduria Division draft, Piriya FC choose... ROBERT PECK

Our first World Cup winner has been picked, with native Hamlander Peck, 28, slotting into Piriya FC's midfield. A regular squad member in the Hamland side that saw success after success, who lifted both the biggest prize of all in 2013 and 2015, a regional title in 2012, and scored in three consecutive EMU Championships. A Porapa lad who started playing with Porapa FC before shifting to the Caputian Real Porapa, Piriya FC will be his first team outside of the postcode in which he was born.

Behaurnais Tigers are now on the clock...

With the fourth pick of the Alduria Division draft, Behaurnais Tigers choose... OLIVER ADAMSON

A second native Hamlander in a row and the first striker to be chosen. While the 28-year-old was often overshadowed somewhat internationally by the superstar pairing of Miller and Craig, he comes to the Tigers with two World Cup winner's medals and an EMU Championship to his name. A sole World Cup goal back in 2011 belies his talent as his domestic performances made him a fixture for Hamland and Caputia for almost a decade, and he hopes to be part of Alduria's push for the Copa Apollonia this year.

With the fifth pick of the Alduria Division draft, Susa Buccaneers FC choose... KIERAN CROOKS

A player very much in the same build as the last pick Adamson; a reliable deputy for one the the most successful sides Micras has ever seen in Hamland, but unfortunate to miss out on some medals. The 29-year-old found the net twice in the 2012 FMF World Cup but then found himself left out of subsequent squads which ultimately won the biggest prize, though he was part of the EMU 2012 victorious squad, scoring his shootout penalty in the final. A strong forward for Ad & Tkir United, with whom he won the EMUFA Cup, the Buccaneers will hope he can supply some goals.

With the sixth pick of the Alduria Division draft, Gramercy Titans choose... ULRICH OLSON

The World Cup winners are coming thick and fast now, with 29-year-old left-back Olson having lifted the trophy in 2015. So influential was his performance in that win that he found himself voted into the official "team of the tournament": no mean feat. Olson's career has taken him from Hamland's Garrak FC to Garrak Athletic of Caputia, and now to Gramercy.

With the seventh pick of the Alduria Division draft, Aldurian Army FC choose... PETER O'REILLY

At 24, O'Reilly is one of the youngest players in the draft, but also one of the most decorated. While his tender age did mean his appearances for Hamland were limited somewhat, that he was consistently included in tournament squads from the age of 17 onward shows how highly rated this defender is. Two World Cup wins and an EMU title by the time he was just 20, O'Reilly's club career has seen him line-up for Kilbay Rangers and Morfaga North Rangers in Hamland, and Morfaga Olympique in Caputia. He is very much expected to play a part in Alduria's defence in the coming years.

With the eighth pick of the Alduria Division draft, Fontainebleau Union FC choose... ERIC HEINHORN

Eric Heinhorn is footballing royalty on Micras; that he is on the wrong side of 30 is likely the only reason he was not picked sooner. Now 31, the hard-hitting central midfielder captained Hamland through their dominance, lifting the World Cup in 2013 and 2015, and EMU 2012, with his personal magnum opus actually coming in the 2012 World Cup, where he was awarded the tournament's best player award. Loyal to his domestic club, perennial underachievers Ad & Tkir United, he last played for Stade Tkir in Caputia, and also played a part in the Caputian national side's run to the EMU final two years ago.
